An original c.1831 watercolour painting A Female 'Literary' Gleaner.

A charming drawing in graphite and watercolour wash.

The drawing derives from a Georgian 'friendship book'. A small plaque inscription describes the subject of the drawing: 'A gleaner would your help implore / To aid her literary store'.

This work derives from a charming collection of Georgian friendship pictures that were collected by a Sarah Wood around 1831. Sarah seems to have been connected with East London. Contributors to the collection include many female members of the Irving family, of Basing Lane, Little Tower Hill; Thomas Timpson, minister of Union Chapel in Lewisham; and Benjamin Guy Babington (1794–1866), physician and epidemiologist at Guy's Hospital.
