An original c.1900s pen & ink drawing, After Grandville, The Cicada Having Sung all Summer.

This expertly drawn cartoon in ink and wash is after an illustration by the renowned French caricaturist Grandville for The Cicada and the Ant from 'Fables' by Jean de La Fontaine.

In pen and ink with watercolour wash. Painted on the blank front of a postcard or 'carte postale'. The postcard dates the work to around the first decade of the 20th century.
