Emily Charlotte Percy Landscape near Fairham

An original mid-19th-century watercolour painting, Emily Charlotte Percy, Landscape near Fairham.

Emily Charlotte Percy (1835–1904) was the wife of well-known Victorian landscape painter Sidney Richard Percy (1822–1886). Sidney was part of the Williams family of painters, his father being the landscape artist Edward Williams (1781–1855). The couple had four children, one of whom became an artist, Herbert Sidney Percy (1863–1932).

The view depicted is described by a later hand on the verso as 'Nr Fairham'. It is unclear whether this is a misspelling of Fareham, or refers to Fairham Brook in Nottinghamshire. Alternatively, Emily Charlotte Percy's maiden name was Fairlam, so it is also possible that it is an incorrect transcription.
