This watercolour is one of a collection of works relating to the Dover area in Kent, apparently connected to the estate of Old Park at Whitfield, northeast of Dover. The artist had a preference for depicting senior statesmen, aristocracy, politicians and royalty, indicating that they were someone operating in these circles.
