Thomas G. Hill 1913–1984

This beautiful collection of works by Thomas G. Hill (1913–1984) spans a considerable period, from 1934 to 1975, and comprises townscapes, portraits and floral still lifes. Hill served with the RAF in the 1940s and exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in the 1960s. He lived at Nantwich in Cheshire; our collection includes scenes at nearby Sandbach. The portraits in our collection display Hill's sensitivity in capturing his sitters in quiet contemplation. It is the still lifes, for which he is best known, that really show Hill's individuality and boldness of approach, with a whole range of floral compositions, ranging from the highly realistic, through the decorative, to the abstract. Hill uses a range of paint techniques to impressive creative effect.
