This drawing is from a collection we have by V. Leuliette, dated between 1887 and 1889. The drawings in this collection are continental in subject; they are likely to be French. The charcoal medium is enlivened by touches of white bodycolour. The artist is working in a landscape art tradition; the compositions show an appreciation of the picturesque, with pleasingly placed crumbling ruins, distant rivers and figures in the landscape, including one in which an artist surveys the view beyond.
