This work comes from a mixed collection of artworks that includes finely detailed graphite sketches of landscape scenes, portraits, and an extremely accomplished botanical study. Though none of the works are signed or dated, there are a number of indications that they may be from the first half of the nineteenth century: there are the hairstyles and manner of dress of the subjects of the portraits, and there is a watermark in the paper of one of the graphite drawings, dated 1830. As is typical with such collections the works appear to be by a number of different hands.
