This work forms part of an interesting collection of pictures associated with the prominent Burrard and Rooke families of Lymington in Hampshire. The collection includes a drawing of the family home, Walhampton House, by Harriet Burrard (c.1765-1839), daughter of Colonel William Burrard, governor of Yarmouth Castle on the Isle of Wight, and sister of the distinguished British Naval officer Admiral Sir Harry Burrard Neale. Harriet Burrard was one of the ladies chosen by Sir Joshua Reynolds to model 'Justice' in his designs for windows at New College, Oxford. There is also a picture of Lymington from the Burrard Neale monument, erected after Sir Harry’s death in 1840. Harriet Burrard married Sir Giles Rooke (1743–1808) in 1785, a prominent English judge, and the collection also includes pictures by members of the Rooke family, as well as some well-executed European grand tour paintings.
