An original contemporary charcoal drawing, Prakash Hari Sonawane, Portrait of Roop Singh.
A striking large portrait (approx. 55 x 43cm) by Mumbai portrait artist Prakash Hari Sonawane (born 1979).
Prakash Sonawane earned his MFA with distinction from the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai. Since graduating he has shared his time between lecturing at Sir J.J. School of Art and creating works displayed at Jehangin Art Gallery, The Strand Art Room, Gallery Leela and much more in Mumbai. He has also received many awards, including from the state art exhibition from the government of Maharashtra, The Art Society of India and the Bombay Art Society. He lives and works in Mumbai, India.
This drawing is one of three historical portraits that we have for sale by the artist that present famous Indian figures in a dignified, naturalistic manner (see stock numbers JZ-312, JZ-313 and JZ-314).
Roop Singh (1908–1977) was legendary Indian hockey player. He was part of the celebrated Indian field hockey team, which won gold medals for India at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games. He is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time.
