An original early 19th-century watercolour painting – Attrib. William Page, Figures on a Path, Possibly Ithaca, Greece.
A fine drawing in brown wash attributed to William Page (1794–1872).
The view, with its rustic cottages and figures, resembles a number of Page's landscape subjects executed in Italy, Greece and Turkey. It is similar in feel, for example, as his 'View in Ithaca' (British Museum 1975,0621.25). A preference for darker foreground foliage is also characteristic of Page.
This drawing is one of an interesting collection of works by / attributed to William Page that we have for sale.
In pen and brown ink with brown wash, over graphite, on cream wove paper.
