An original early 19th-century watercolour painting – Attrib. William Page, Figures on a Stone Bridge.
A fine drawing in brown wash attributed to William Page (1794–1872).
The location of the view is hard to place; it resembles a number of Page's landscape subjects executed in Italy, Greece and Turkey. The curved forward sweep of the bridge is similar to a drawing of a bridge near Tivoli (LM Library). But it also resembles Brathay Bridge in Cumbria (drawn by Joseph Farington, Yale Center for British Art, B1977.14.1890).
This drawing is one of an interesting collection of works by / attributed to William Page that we have for sale.
In pen and brown ink with brown wash, over graphite, on rough paper.
