The Dutch painter and draughtsman Adriaen van de Velde (1636–1672) was one of the finest landscape artists of the Dutch Golden Age. He specialised in landscapes featuring figures and animals. Born in Amsterdam, Adriaen was probably trained by his father, Willem van de Velde the Elder (1611–1693), a marine painter. Despite his premature death, he produced a great number of masterpieces and numerous preparatory studies. On handmade laid.
