R.J. Blesard Hardraw Spout, Wensleydale, North Yorkshire

An original 1834 watercolour painting, R.J. Blesard, Hardraw Spout, Wensleydale, North Yorkshire.

A superb, intensely coloured topographical watercolour, executed during an 1834 Yorkshire tour.

The artist is believed to be Robert John Blesard (1809–1839) of Woodhouse, Leeds, son of a woollen merchant and descendent of the prominent Quaker Blesard family of Guiseley.

Tiny figures wonderfully enliven the scene.

With gum arabic to intensify the colour. On watermarked J Whatman wove paper.
