An original 1874 watercolour painting – Lucy Hunter, Anton’s Hill House, Berwickshire, Scottish Borders.
A charming watercolour by a member of the Hunter family of Anton's Hill, Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders.
The painting shows an informal 'back view of Anton's Hill', the Hunter family residence near Leitholm. The artist, Lucy Hunter, was the daughter of Matthew Dysart Hunter (1803–1869), who inherited Anton's Hill from his mother, Jean Dickson (d.1845). Anton's Hill House was designed for the Dicksons in the 1830s by the leading Scottish architect William Burns.
There is a partial graphite sketch on the verso.
