It was not until 1822 that the real first 'bathing establishment' of France was installed on the beach, along with a bathroom with triumphal arch and pavilions, and wooden pontoons leading directly to the beach. Thomas of Lew Trenchard, and his work attracted the early admiration of the Earl of Egremont, J.M.W.
