An original early 19th-century watercolour painting Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey, Looking South West.

An impressive large architectural watercolour showing the interior at the Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey. On the verso the view is described as 'Looking South West. Representing part of the the Royal Tomb of Henry 7th'.

The painting is unsigned but is clearly of professional standard and likely to be by an architectural draughtsman of the day, and has the appearance of being from the very early the 19th century. The view bears resemblance to an engraving of the Henry VII Chapel by Thomas Malton the Younger (1748–1804), although without the figures. Also similar is the work of Frederick Mackenzie (1787–1854), who produced an illustration of the Chapel for the 1811 publication 'A Treatise on the Ecclesiastical Architecture of England, During the Middle Ages'.

In brown wash with brown ink. On heavy wove paper laid down on backing card.
