Indian Company School Indian Grey Francolin Partridge Bird
An original c.1830 watercolour painting, Indian Company School, Indian Grey Francolin Partridge Bird.
A superb example of a Indian Company painting and part of an outstanding collection of Indian bird subjects that we have for sale.
As is typical for Company School style, the bird is painted with tremendously vivid opacity and fine detail. The vignette includes a small patch of shadow, grounding the bird within the composition.
The grey francolin (Francolinus pondicerianus) is found in the plains and drier parts of the Indian subcontinent. Their local name is teetar, based on their calls—a loud and repeated Ka-tee-tar...tee-tar.On wove paper with JM&M and fleur de lis watermark.
