R.J. Blesard Hardraw Force Waterfall, Wensleydale
An original 1833 watercolour painting, R.J. Blesard, Hardraw Force Waterfall, Wensleydale.
A superb, intensely coloured topographical watercolour, executed during an 1833 Yorkshire tour.
The artist is believed to be Robert John Blesard (1809–1839) of Woodhouse, Leeds, son of a woollen merchant and descendent of the prominent Quaker Blesard family of Guiseley.
Small figures and a translucent rainbow in the waterfall wonderfully enliven the scene.
With gum arabic to intensify the colour.
