An original early 19th-century graphite drawing – Pierre de Bocosel de Chatelard.
A very finely rendered graphite portrait. The subject is a detail from Henri Jean-Baptiste Victoire Fradelle's painting of Pierre de Bocosel de Chatelard playing the lute to Mary, Queen of Scots. Pierre de Bocosel de Chastelard (1540–1563) was a French poet who developed an obsessive love for the queen. Gaining entry to the queen's cabinet room, he twice hid himself under her bed; the second time he was beheaded for his offence.
