An original c.1900s graphite drawing Aquarium, Brighton Seafront.

A fantastic impressionistic sketch from around the Edwardian era featuring the Aquarium on the seafront in Brighton, which opened in 1872. The Aquarium was bombed during the First World War and was reconstructed afterwards. It is the second oldest aquarium still operating in the world.

Historic Brighton & Hove Architecture

This picture forms part of a small collection of works that we have for sale documenting the unique historic architecture of Brighton & Hove. Emerging from a fishing town into a health resort—patronised by royalty and fashionable high society—in the 18th and early 19th century, Brighton has some of the finest Regency architecture in England. These pictures feature the iconic arches under King's Road which define Brighton's seafront, and capture the Aquarium and its distinctive clocktower, which was demolished in the 1920s. Another picture documents a fascinating and rare view of an early stage in the building of Adelaide Crescent in Hove, one of the foremost pre-Victorian residential developments in the Brighton area.
