An original early 19th-century watercolour painting – Floriography Poem & Flower Illustration.
Handwritten verse on the subject of floriography, or the language of flowers, describing the symbolism of each flower. Illustrated with a beautifully painted watercolour depicting each flower species: violet, rose, honeysuckle, passionflower, rose, jasmine, hyacinth, tulip and primrose.
In watercolour with gum arabic to intensify the colour. On watermarked J Whatman 1821 wove paper.
