A fantastically vivid set of sixteen 19th-century Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica depicting trades and occupations. The paintings are small in size, measuring approximately 10.2 x 6.6cm.
The detailed, colourful images comprise a Water Carrier 'Behitshy'; Servant Cooling Water on Ice 'Abdar'; Servant Washing Dishes 'Masalchi'; Servant Cooking Meat 'Bawarchi'; Servant with Sun Shade; Washerman 'Dhobi' Ironing; Bootmaker; Pitara Casket Carrier; Groom Leading a Horse 'Sais'; Dog Boy 'Doriya'; Water Carrier 'Behitshy' for Muharram; Juggler; Servant Churning Butter 'Makhan-wala'; Bairagi with an Ektar; Mali Gardener Carrying Grass; and Man Dressed for Ceremonial Combat.
Indian Company paintings on mica are rare; it is estimated that as of now, there are only around 7,000 mica paintings available in the world.
The mica is loose with no mount or backing.

Condition: Overall in very good condition, with vivid colours and minimal paint loss, and generally very little delamination. Minor toning in places. One of the micas has some smudging and wear to the paint surface and losses to the mica at the lower left corner. Please see photos for detail.
