Anon. Indian River Landscape with Water Buffalo
An original early 19th-century watercolour painting Indian River Landscape with Water Buffalo.
A beautifully atmospheric watercolour showing an Indian river scene, possibly in Bengal, featuring thatched huts, long boats and buffalo gathered at the water's edge. The painting is unsigned, but is executed with significant skill. The hand is no doubt a British artist working in India in the early 19th century; other works from the same collection included pictures by Frederick Charles Maisey (1825–1892) and Captain James Manson, an assistant on the geological survey of the Garhwal region of the Himalayas.
