A picturesque monochrome watercolour of a glimpsed view at Scarborough Castle. M.C. Baines could be Mary Catherine Baines (b.1821), daughter of Hewley Mortimer Baines (Wistow and Bell Hall, Naburn, Yorks) and Mary Harrison. In 1845 Catherine married John James Harrison, from a successful banking family at Harrogate.
Provenance: From a larger collection of works which included pictures by Paul Sandby, Paul Sandby Munn, Samuel Howitt and George Morland.
