Mary Elizabeth Lefroy Portrait of Odysseas Androutsos, Greek War of Independence
An original 1846 watercolour painting – Mary Elizabeth Lefroy, Portrait of Odysseas Androutsos, Greek War of Independence.
A delightful Orientalist portrait from our Irish aristocratic O'Grady / Vereker collection. The drawing depicts Odysseas Androutsos, a prominent military commander and hero of the Greek War of Independence.
The artist is presumed to be Mary Elizabeth Lefroy (1817–1890), the daughter of the prominent Irish judge and politician Thomas Langlois Lefroy, who courted Jane Austen.
This drawing is one of a fascinating collection of works that we have for sale connected with the aristocratic O'Grady and Vereker families of 19th-century Ireland.
In grey wash on card.
