E.H., Catkin Flowers on a Branch – Original 1837 watercolour painting

An original 1837 watercolour painting, E.H., Catkin Flowers on a Branch.

An exquisite hand-painted botanical watercolour. With gum arabic to intensify the colour and small touches of white bodycolour.

The artist, 'E.H.' is quite possibly Edward Hussey. The Hussey family were related to the Twopenny family of Kent. An associated inscription (see photo) gives the provenance of this drawing, given to Mary Twopenny by her cousin David at Little Casterton in 1832. David Twopenny, commoner at Oriel College, Oxford and lifelong Vicar of Stockbury in Kent, was a collector of art (a sale of his collection at Christie’s included an extensive collection of fine engravings after Turner). David's niece Charlotte, the daughter of William Twopeny, Esq., of Rochester, married the Rev William Hussey, Rector of Sandhurst, brother to Edward Hussey.

On paper laid down on backing paper.

All artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity and—if it is a collection artwork—its accompanying collection text or artist biography.
