A beautifully ethereal watercolour with a profoundly Romantic sensibility, showing influence of J.M.W. Turner. Inscribed below the image is: 'It was an evening calm and still, as ever shone on tree or bower/ Shining as if naught of ill, could happen in so sweet an hour'.
The painting is accompanied by a separate sheet of card with a complementary excerpt from the poem 'On the Receipt of My Mother's Picture' by William Cowper.
