Born in Biebrich-Mosbach in Nassau in 1849, Heinrich Schlitt is best known for his humorous illustrations and designs featuring dwarves, sagas and fairy tales. Schlitt first received teaching from Wiesbaden artist Kaspar Kögler, then went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich with Wilhelm Lindenschmit from 1875—the date of this drawing.Schlitt worked successfully as an illustrator for the Illustrated Newspaper and the magazines Overland and Sea, Daheim and Schalk—his work became well known to the public through these magazines. He also worked as one of principal artists for the ceramics firm Villeroy and Boch, in particular designing drinking vessels, which are now highly collectable. His highly regarded painted frescoes also adorn the walls of the Rathskeller (town hall) in Munich and Wiesbaden. Here Schlitt has drawn a number studies of Medieval German costume features, including headpieces and jewellery. The distinctive heavy outlining to some of the illustrations give the appearance of medieval stained glass artwork—and indeed one is inscribed 'Nach eine Glascheibe' or 'After a glass pane'. Each illustration is inscribed in German, including: 'Goldkappe mit seinen Schleier darmuster c.1490' (gold cap with its veil patterns); 'Goldhaube mit Schleien—eine Ohrmuschel mit Perlen besetzt circa 1490' (gold hood with loops—an ear shell with pearls circa 1490) and 'Edelmann c.1480 mit Goldkette' (nobleman c.1480 with gold necklace). The drawing is presented in a cream window mount, secured at the top corners with hinging tape.

An original 1921 Pamphlet, His Majesty's Theatre Cairo Programme.

This original programme relates to the 1921 production at His Majesty's Theatre (now Her Majesty's Theatre) in London, starring leading actors of the day, Lily Brayton and Oscar Asche.

Cairo premiered in New York in 1920 under the title Mecca.
