Original Rev Thomas Timpson, Handwritten Lord's Prayer in Latin & Greek, 1832.
An interesting small item relating to the history of the Congregationalist Church in London.
The Lord's Prayer is neatly handwritten in Latin and Greek on pale pink wove paper by Rev Thomas Timpson.
Rev Timpson is recorded as being minister of Union Chapel in Lewisham. Union Chapel was Congregationalist, and Rev Timpson was a prolific writer of religious texts, including 'A key to the Bible' and 'Church History of Kent', as well as 'Memoirs of Mrs Elizabeth Fry'. At the time of his son’s birth Timpson was apparently working as a goldsmith at Horse Fair, Birmingham.
This is one of two items by Rev Timpson that we have for sale (see stock numbers KC-271 to KC-272).
