Alan Oliver (b.1937) trained as an engineer, then as a graphic designer and technical illustrator, running his own successful film animation business, before deciding to become a full time painter in 1983. A strong design aesthetic underpins his work, as well as an interest in the play of light and colour.
Often working in pastel, Oliver became President of the Leicestershire Pastel Society in 2008. He also works in watercolour, oil and acrylic, and has exhibited at numerous solo and joint exhibitions, including at the Royal Institute, Royal Watercolour Society, Royal Oil Institute, Royal Academy and the Pastel Society.
