Indian Company School Eastern Great Egret Heron Bird

An original c.1830 watercolour painting, Indian Company School, Eastern Great Egret Heron Bird.

A superb example of an Indian Company painting and part of an outstanding collection of Indian bird subjects that we have for sale.

As is typical for Company School style, the bird is painted with tremendously vivid opacity and fine detail. The vignette includes a small patch of riverbank, grounding the bird within the composition.

The Eastern Great Egret is a white heron, which was first described by British ornithologist John Edward Gray in 1831, when it was simply described as the 'pure white heron of India'.

On wove paper.
