An original mid-19th-century pen & ink drawing, Alfred Crowquill, Church Interior with Procession.
A spirited and richly detailed ink drawing by Alfred Crowquill (1804–1872). Alfred Crowquill was the pseudonym for Alfred Henry Forrester, an author, comic artist and illustrator, who was one of the first artists to contribute to Punch (1841–4).
The drawing is deftly coloured in watercolour wash; oblique beams of pale yellow light are cast beyond the heavily inked archway, aptly providing a dramatic sense of dark and light.
On cream paper.
