An original mid-19th-century watercolour painting – Alice J. Morton, Portrait of a Young Man with Phrygian Cap.
An attractive monochrome portrait. Alice Morton (1838–1860) was the daughter of the Irish missionary in India, William Morton. Morton published a Bengali dictionary and translated biblical texts into Bengali in the 1820s and 1830s. He also served as Professor and Chaplain of Calcutta Grammar-School.
In watercolour with white bodycolour highlights. On grey paper. The paper has been historically cut to shape as shown.
