An original c.1826 graphite drawing, Cornelius Harrison, Profile Portrait Head.

An interesting portrait study, possibly after Raphael. Cornelius Harrison (fl.c.1835) of Stubb House in County Durham was a friend of the artist Charles West Cope (1811–1890) (whose father, Charles Cope, was a friend of Benjamin West and J.M.W. Turner). The pair went to Paris in 1832 where they copied Titian, Rembrandt and other old masters in the Louvre. Cope met his future wife at Harrison's home, Ann Charlotte Benning (whose mother was Ann Stockdale Harrison). Cornelius Harrison died young, in 1836. He is recorded as donating three Raphael prints to the British Museum in 1835. His memorial tablet is in Bowes Church.

On wove Whatman paper watermarked 1826.

The drawing is attributed on the verso.
