Theodore Henry Adolphus Fielding Italian Landscape View

An original early 19th-century watercolour painting, Theodore Henry Adolphus Fielding, Italian Landscape View.

This lovely Continental landscape is a small triumph in composition and colouring by Theodore Henry Adolphus Fielding (1781–1851). A number of charming pictorial elements are finely balanced: the distant town, bridge and mountain recede in warm evening light; the darker middle-ground vegetation, and foreground figures and goats, anchor and enliven the landscape.

Provenance: from an album of drawings associated with Sir William Vernon Guise, 4th Baronet (1816–1887) and his circle.
