An original 19th-century set of 6 Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica.
A vivid set of six 19th-century Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica depicting trades and occupations. The paintings are medium in size, measuring approximately 16 x 12cm.
The colourful images comprise a Water Carrier 'Behitshy'; Tailor 'Darzi'; Servant with Chauri Fly Whisk 'Khitmutgar'; Servant Cooling Water on Ice 'Abdar'; Servant 'Barburdar' with Keys; and Servant Washing Dishes 'Masalchi'.
Indian Company paintings on mica are rare; it is estimated that as of now, there are only around 7,000 mica paintings available in the world.
The mica is loose with no mount or backing.
