This sky study appears to form inspiration for his organic bookplate motifs, examples of which are on the verso of the paper. The study comes from a sketchbook dated 1914; other studies in our collection show the range of natural figurative subjects that inspired—and directly translate into—Waller's stylised designs, including flowers, feathers, birds and waves.

In coloured ink and wash on wove paper.

Note that there is an additional study on the verso of the paper.

Please note the small size of this artwork.

https://somersetandwood.com/es/products/pickford-robert-waller-cloudy-skies-study-original-1914-pen-ink-drawing-ke-109
