The Circling Year

The Circling Year

Autumn is officially here, and this week we are musing on the cyclical passing of time and the iconography of the seasons, so engrained in the British psyche, with our new collection of nature illustrations. Painted by Charles Francis Newall (who illustrated many nature books of the Edwardian era), they are the original artwork for the book 'The Circling Year' 1912. Its 6 charming volumes—Rambles in Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, On the Seashore and Under the Stars—evoke nostalgia for a time of greater simplicity and connection with the natural world.

(Also makes me want to grab the kids and go blackberry picking to make that first slightly soggy and somewhat burnt pie of the season!)
