An original 1910s charcoal drawing, G. Cervelli, World War One French Satirical Caricature.
A fabulous World War One military caricature by French cartoonist and artist G. Cervelli (fl.1910–1920). Cervelli shows the faces of three military officers contorted in expressions of agitation and upset, accompanied by the annotation 'When we had the blues 1914–18'. This is one of a number of War subjects by Cervelli, in which the artist critiques the aggrandisement of military authority and satirises the vagaries, futility and misplaced glorification of military aggression.
In charcoal with touches of grey wash and white bodycolour highlights.
