An original 19th-century set of 14 Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica.
A vivid, delicately painted set of fourteen 19th-century Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica depicting wandering ascetics. The paintings are small in size, measuring approximately 10 x 7cm.
The detailed, colourful images comprise a Servant with Fruit Basket; Itinerant Bairagi Ascetics; Sanyasi Wearing Tiger Skin; Woman with Snake; Juggler Ascetic; Muslim Fakir with Hookah; Bairagi Ascetic with Ektara; Bairagi Ascetic in Lotus Position; and Fakir Ascetic with Vessel.
Indian Company paintings on mica are rare; it is estimated that as of now, there are only around 7,000 mica paintings available in the world.
The mica is loose with no mount or backing.
