An original mid-19th-century pen & ink drawing, John Grant, Cavalry Battlefield Scene.

An accomplished drawing in brown ink, full of the energy and terrible force of battle.

An accompanying historic inscription identifies the artist as John (or James) Grant, who is likely to be the John Grant (d.1873) who produced a series of aquatints at Woolwich for Illustrations of the Army and Navy Register and Woolwich Gazette, 1843–5, examples of which are in the collection of Yale Center for British Art. There is also a similar ink drawing, of a huntsman on horseback, by a James Grant (1798–1873) in the British Museum no.1971,0513.34.

On watermarked J Whatman 1830 wove paper. Laid down on card with window cut verso.
