This drawing is one of three historical portraits that we have for sale by the artist that present famous Indian figures in a dignified, naturalistic manner (see stock numbers JZ-312, JZ-313 and JZ-314).

Baji Rao I (1700–1740), was the second Peshwa and ruled the Maratha Empire from 1720 until his death in 1740. Known as the best cavalry general, he never lost any battle. He married the legendary beautiful 'Mastani', who was the daughter of King Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand.
