An original 1870s watercolour painting Victorian Papercut Silhouette Portrait of Master Verner.

A fine, full-length cut-out portrait silhouette dating from around 1870.

The portrait is meticulously cut from very thin black paper, mounted onto cream wove paper.

The name of the sitter is inscribed below.

This silhouette forms part of a collection of paper cuts by the same hand that we have for sale. The majority of the silhouettes are portraits of members of British aristocracy, with a number connected to the Royal Navy. Two of the silhouettes are imaginative scenes. The identity of the artist is unknown but they were clearly a talented hand.
