A beautiful miniature landscape view in sepia. The landscape at Matlock shows the River Derwent bounded by the limestone crags of High Tor and Wild Cat Tor, rising almost vertically from the river's edge in places. Laid down on backing paper.

Victorian Friendship Pictures

This work is a delightful example of a Victorian 'friendship picture' and is one of a collection of such works that we have for sale. Varied and often small in scale, they represent the Victorian art of collecting original artworks as mementoes of friendship and exchange.
