An exceptional, large 19th-century Chinese painting on pith depicting flowers and insects.
The confident handling and fine detail to the branch and tendrils is in the style of Tingqua (1809–1870) also known as Guan Lianchang, the younger brother of Lamqua and the most famous of the Canton (Guangzhou) artists.
In vibrant gouache on pith, mounted on wove paper with original blue silk mounting ribbon.

Condition: The pith painting is in exceptionally good condition, with no significant toning, cracks or losses, which is rare for paintings of this size. There are two very small cracks to the pith at the upper left, a minor line of imperfection at the lower edge and faint vertical striation to the pith towards the upper edge.
