An original mid-19th-century watercolour painting, Isabelle Laurie née Murray, Landscape Miniature.
An attractive miniature wash drawing, with beautiful light cast on the ruin at the right.
Isabelle Murray was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. John Murray. She married John Minet Laurie, son of John Minet Fector and Anne Wortley Montagu Laurie, in 1841, and her married name became Laurie. There is a watercolour in the British Museum by Lord Henry Scott which was a gift of gratitude from the artist to Mrs Isabelle Laurie, who together with her husband nursed Lord Henry back to health on their dahabeah on the Nile when he became ill in Egypt.
The painting is presented tipped on to backing paper in a blue mount with attribution verso, and with historic framing board, which gives further provenance details.
