S&W Collection

This collection of late 19th-century works by W.E. Backhouse of Sheffield shows the artist's appreciation of the local Yorkshire landscape, as well as the Peak District and further afield in Ireland. The watercolours have an attractive looseness, utilising the translucency of the medium to build up layers of subtle wash. The collection also includes a number of appealing portraits.
