A fantastically vivid set of eighteen 19th-century Indian gouache paintings on transparent mica depicting dancing girls and musicians. The paintings are medium in size, measuring approximately 13 x 9cm.
The detailed, colourful images comprise Nautch Dancing Girls; Sarangi-players; Cymbal-player; Tambura-player; Tabla-players; Sitar-player; Kanjira Tambourine-player; Bansuri Flute-players; and Shehnai-players.
Indian Company paintings on mica are rare; it is estimated that as of now, there are only around 7,000 mica paintings available in the world.
The mica is loose with no mount or backing.
