Lucius Rossi The Physician's Visit

An original late 19th-century watercolour painting, Lucius Rossi, The Physician's Visit.

A beautifully painted rococo-style genre scene by Italian artist in Paris, Lucius Rossi (1846–1913). In this engaging historical scene, harking back to the high rococo fashions of the 18th century, Rossi suggests a playfully flirtatious narrative, as a gentleman doctor checks the quickened pulse of a striken young lady. The theatrical and curvaceous ornamental style of the rococo interior frames the narrative with a sense of drama and romance. Lucius Rossi is known for his attention to detail and delicacy of touch, as well as being an excellent colourist—elements which come together here with great mastery.

On thin artist's board.
