An original 18th-century etching print, The Hon. Booth Grey, Thatched Cottage with Chickens.

The Honourable Booth Grey is listed as being 'Circle of Mary Delany', there being a series of ninety plant collages by the Honble Booth Grey (now mainly in the Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven, with a few examples elsewhere, notably the Metropolitan Museum, NY).

The exact identity of Booth Grey is uncertain, as there were various family members around this time with the same name. The British Museum suggests that it could be William Booth Grey (born 1773), the grandson, through his mother, of the 2nd Duchess of Portland, who was a great friend of Mary Delany (1700–1788). Yale however lists the artist as Booth Grey (1740–1802). There are two etchings by Booth Grey at Yale similar to the present print. Additionally, there was another Honourable Booth Grey (a politician) who was William's uncle. His son, also Booth Grey, married William's sister, Sophia.

On laid paper. Please note the small size of this artwork.
